on February 21st of 1341, Agot De Baux, knight of Bram, Seneschal of Toulouse and of the Albigeois, to construct a fortified town under royal protection.

Founded in 1342 , Revel has kept the original character of its construction. This medieval town has been symmetrically constructed around a central place . All the streets ,meeting by a right angle, end at its center where we discover a master piece of popular art: a wide covered market (the biggest in France) covered by pink tiles. The framework ,with century old beans ( all original ), is supported by a forest of pillars.
On the top we have a belfry being ,during centuries, the town
hall with its watching tower, its consul's room and its prison. This place surrounded by archways is a privileged place for pedestrians. Old corbelling houses show the successful mix of wood and brick of which a sight can be caught from the neighbored streets.
District's Chief Town since 1790 to 1800 , Revel is still County
Town. The fortified town was the center of the town's extension surrounded by communication routes leading to the town.
